Mr. Noah’s Big Boat
was a huge hit; enormously entertaining. A great
pity it played in Cebu only for one day. The puppet
musicale presented at SM Cinema One by AXS, Provalue
Inc., 2Go and Informatics Computer Institute is
a production of Trumpets, now becoming a big name
in the atre having produced Joseph the Dreamer,
the longest-running Philippine musical, Little Mermaid,
the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, WOW ( Windows,
orphans and wild beasts ) and several other musicals.
Audie Gemora, president of Trumpets tells us that
Mr. Noah’s Big Boat combines several art forms,
puppetry, mask, mime, dance and musical comedy.
Jaime del Mundo, who wrote the script and lyrics
and directed the puppet musical deserves congratulations,
a standing ovation, for his imaginative plot, inspired
of course by the biblical story of Noah’s
Ark but which he translated into a cool, modern-day
version for children to understand and relate to.
Gary Valenciano, the superstar, is the featured
performer in this musical, his singing, pre-recorded,
is pure Gary, his acting voice as Noah is surprisingly
Gary, the actor. The music by Rony Fortich, is wonderfully
happy, bouncy, rollicking, finger-snapping and catchy
I caught myself swinging Oh! Oh! Oh! And then …Help!
